Overview

A wonderful safari tour following the elephant trail through the wonderful Amboseli, the wilderness of Tsavo West, the scenic wildlife sanctuary of Taita Hills and the vast scrublands of Tsavo East. With amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro, opportunities to see many species of bird and animals including huge herds of elephant, big cats and many other mammal species such as hyena, buffalo and even rhino roaming the savannahs and scrublands - this route makes a wonderful safari tour with beautiful landscapes and plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities that winds it ways through southeastern Kenya, ending at the beautiful Kenyan coastline for a five night stay at the stunning Chale Island resort in Diani.

​Day-by-day itinerary in brief

Day ​1 - Nairobi - Wildebeest Eco Camp
Spend a day sight-seeing in Nairobi, visiting the conservancies, elephant orphanage and other places of interest. Accommodation is at the Wildebeest Eco Camp, a pleasant camp in the suburbs of Nairobi, located close to the attractions.​​

​Day 2 & 3 - Amboseli, Kibo Safari Camp
Depart Nairobi for Amboseli, a fantastic park with great views of Kilimanjaro and abundant wildlife including herds of elephants and big cats. Accommodation is at Kibo tented camp, located just outside the park, each tent has a comfy bed and en suite shower and toilet, and meals are buffet style. ​

Day 4 & 5​ - Tsavo West, Serena Kilaguni
Spend two days on game drives in the 7,000 km sq. wilderness of Tsavo West with its woodland, savannah and riverine habitats, where you can find herds of elephants, rhino, leopard and many other plains mammals. Accommodation the is at the stunning Serena Kilaguni situated inside the park; which is a game-viewing lodge over-looking its own watering hole that can have daily visits from elephants and many other plains mammals.​

Day 6 – Taita Hills, Sarova Salt Lick Lodge
Spend a day in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a very scenic area with abundant wildlife, with more than fifty species of large mammals and three hundred species of birds. Accommodation is at Sarova Salt Lick, an unusual game viewing lodge, set on stilts overlooking a water source which attracts a lot of wildlife.

Day 7 & 8 - Tsavo East, Satao Camp
Tsavo East is a plateau of open grassland with giant baobab trees and is the largest protected area in Kenya at over 13,500 sq km. This huge park is home to many of the larger mammals, including elephant, rhino, lion, leopard also with 500 recorded bird species. You will be staying at the remotely located Satao camp, which enjoys a unique setting overlooking a watering hole which attracts in many animals for their daily drink and is one of the best places to see large herds of elephants.

Day 9 to 13 (5 nights) – Diani, Chale Island
After an early morning game drive you’ll head back to camp for breakfast, then mid-morning you will leave Satao for the beautiful beaches of Diani where you'll be staying at The Sands at Chale Island, located on a small island just offshore. The resort has three swimming pools, one is a fresh water pool, connected by a small waterfall to a large Jacuzzi. There is also a salt-water swimming pool that connects to the sea at high tide. There is also a spa, two small boutique shops, restaurant, bar and lounge areas and for the more adventurous there is a scuba diving centre based on the island. Other activities include: beach snorkeling, boat snorkeling, glass bottom boat trips, sea kayaking, game fishing and local catamaran sailing. Excursions to the Wasini marine reserve for dolphin spotting can also be arranged.

Day 14 – Transfer to Nairobi
After lunch you will be transferred to the local airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. End of Tour.
