GREAT RIFT VALLEY LAKES & LAIKIPIA PLAINS

Overview

A 6-day adventure through the Great Rift Valley, visiting two of the Great Lakes where you’ll experience game drives and a boat safari, then onto the wonderful Ol Pejeta conservancy to explore the Laikipia plains. There will be plenty of opportunities to see all the Big Five including both black and white rhino, hippos, many species of bird and also some more unusual species such as the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra.

​Day-by-day itinerary in brief

Day 1 - Lake Naivasha, Sopa Resort
Spend the day at Lake Naivasha where you'll experience a boat safari and guided nature walk where you can see huge pods of hippo and many species of birds. Accommodation is at Sopa Resort located close to the lake shore and has beautiful gardens and there is often wildlife wandering around such as bushbuck, zebra and giraffe.

Day 2 & 3 - Lake Nakuru, Sopa Lodge
Spend two days enjoying game drives at Lake Nakuru where you can see over 400 different species of birds including large numbers of pelicans and sometimes flamingoes. Nakuru is a great place to get up close to white rhino and you can also see the rare Rothschild giraffe and many other plains mammals including buffalo and lions! Accommodation is at the Sopa luxury lodge situated at the top of a ridge and has stunning views over the park and lake. 
 
Day 4 & 5 - Ol Pejeta, Sweetwaters Tented Camp
Depart Nakuru and continue your safari onto the Ol Pejeta conservancy, located on a vast plateau and has the highest density of large mammals in Kenya; including unusual species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, the Lelwel hartebeest and rare black rhino. You’ll spend two nights at the stunning, luxury Sweetwaters tented camp, which is set on the foothills of Mount Kenya overlooking a watering hole. You’ll spend your time here on game drives during the day and night, and also spend a morning lion tracking with the local rangers, participating in research gathering needed to monitor the collared lions!

Day 6 – Ol Pejeta to Nairobi
After breakfast and an early morning game drive, you will head back to Nairobi with a picnic lunch.
