RIFT VALLEY LAKES & MAASAI MARA

Overview

A wonderful 7-day safari tour visiting two of the Great Rift Valley lakes and the classic Maasai Mara. Activities include game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park and the Maasai Mara National reserve, a boat safari on Lake Naivasha and a bush walk on Crescent Island. There will be plenty of opportunities to track down all the Big Five, see hippos in their natural environment, spot hundreds of species of bird and watch big cats patrol the savannah plains!

​Day-by-day itinerary in brief

Day 1 & 2 - Lake Nakuru, Sopa Lodge
Spend two days in the premium Lake Nakuru where you can see over 400 different species of birds including large numbers of pelicans and sometimes flamingoes. Nakuru is also a great place to get up close to white rhino and you can also see the rare Rothschild giraffe here as well as zebra, buffalo, waterbuck and lions! Accommodation is at Sopa Lodge, a good upper mid-range lodge situated at the top of a ridge with stunning views over the park and lake.

Day 3 - Lake Naivasha, Sopa Resort
Head to Lake Naivasha for a boat safari and a bush walk on Crescent Island, here you can see hippos and many species of birds including fish eagles and pelicans as well as many other plains mammals. You'll be staying at Sopa Resort, located close to the lake shore and has beautiful gardens and there is often wildlife wandering around such as bushbuck, zebra and giraffe.

Day 4, 5 & 6 - Maasai Mara, Sarova Game Camp
Depart Naivasha for the Maasai Mara, rich in biodiversity and home to a large variety of bird species and wildlife, this savannah reserve offers fantastic game viewing and bird watching opportunities. The Maasai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife reserves and is home to the annual wildebeest migration, which involves over 1.5 million animals! There have been 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve. Accommodation is at the luxury Sarova Mara Game Camp, a good quality tented camp inside the Maasai Mara national reserve. Spend three days on game drives exploring the savannah grasslands tracking down the Big Five! 

Day 7 - Maasai Mara to Nairobi
After breakfast you'll head back to Nairobi by road (5 hours by road) stopping for lunch along the way. On arrival you'll be dropped at your preferred location.
